CHRISTIAN PILGRIMAGE IN TURKEY
After Jesus was taken up to sit on the right hand of His Father, the church in Jerusalem expanded rapidly. The Jewish leaders were not pleased with this and the Christians were persecuted. They fled Jerusalem to safer places.
Many fled to Antioch. The Church in Antioch became a major centre of Christianity.
Today Antioch is known as Antakya. It is situated in the southeast of Turkey.
Christians who travel to Turkey also visit the sites of Seven Churches of Asia Minor.
